Hunt Brothers On Board This Weekend at 'dega...April 21, 2009
STATESVILLE, N.C.— Hunt Brothers Pizza joins AJ Allmendinger’s No. 44 Dodge this weekend at Talladega for its first appearance on a Richard Petty Motorsports car. Allmendinger hopes to duplicate his third-place finish in the Daytona 500 and fifth-place finish in the Bud Shooutout — the most recent NASCAR Sprint Cup Series restrictor plate races — on Sunday at the 2.66-mile Alabama, tri-oval. Allmendinger is already planning his way into the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 16 if he isn’t one of the two drivers to transfer from the Sprint All-Star Challenge that evening.
ALLMENDINGER ON TALLADEGA — “You better believe we’re welcoming the chance to run at Talladega. We are taking the same car that we finished third in at Daytona. I don’t know how much strategy there is at Talladega other than race like heck, stay out of trouble and be there at the end. If we can hook up our Petty Dodges like we did at Daytona then I think we have a good chance on Sunday. But it’s Talladega and nothing would surprise me. Guess that’s why there are so many people who like that race.”
ALLMENDINGER ON ALL-STAR RACE FAN VOTING— “I plan to race my way in there like we did last year. But, I’m not taking any chances. I’m kicking off my campaign today to get the most fan votes. I’ll do anything to get into that race. I think I’m going to use the next few weeks to campaign for votes harder than Barack OBama and John McCain did in the last election. I’ll promise anything! “I think we are going to print up some shirt and who knows maybe give away some Hunt Brothers Pizza. I don’t mind bribing the voters. Whatever works is my motto.”
RICHARD PETTY ON ALL-STAR VOTING — “I guess if there is any team in NASCAR that’s more thankful to the fans it is us. The fans voted Kasey (Kahne) into the race last year and he went and won the thing. It wouldn’t be too bad if that happened again. I don't care if it is AJ, Reed (Sorenson) or Elliott (Sadler). I think one or two of those boys can race their way in and maybe the other could use the fans’ help and get in. Once you are in, anything can happen.”
