Allmendinger Leads Fords With Fourth at Watkins Glen

August 8, 2010

Watkins Glen, NY, 8 August 2010-- After announcing on Friday that he’d has solidified his plans to stay with Richard Petty Motorsports and drive the No. 43, AJ Allmendinger capped off a big race weekend at Watkins Glen International by converting his fourth position on the grid into fourth at the finish with the No. 43 Insignia HDTV/Best Buy Ford Fusion.

The result marked the best finish of the race for the Ford Fusion runners as the Blue Oval kept the momentum moving forward after breaking through for a race victory last weekend.

AJ started strong, and kept in the top five all day long, even taking the lead for one brief breath-taking moment as he ran around the outside of a three wide battle for the lead going into turn one, only to get shuffled back into fourth in the order as the field charged up through the esses.

After doing battle with every car that figured on the day, AJ brought the 43 Insignia HDTV Ford home in fourth for his best finish of the season to date.

“Actually, it was pretty easy today!” joked AJ in his post-race interview with MRN about his day. “The Insignia car was pretty good, all day long. We didn’t have anything for the 42 or the 47, but I’m still pretty happy with the day and really proud of the effort from the Richard Petty Motorsports guys. After getting everything done with the contract, I’m happy to kick things off with some good momentum with a result like this and hopefully we can just keep this going.”
