Allmendinger Puts Wix Filters Ford Third on Charlotte Grid

14 October 2010 (Charlotte, NC)-- For the fourth time in the last six races, AJ Allmendinger will sport a single-digit spot on the grid after he dug deep and scored third on the grid with the No. 43 Wix Filters Ford Fusion for RPM Motorsports on Thursday. Aj’s time of 190.921 marked a significant improvement after having  warmed up with the 27th time on the sheets in opening practice.

Every Cup race is important, but the Charlotte weekend has a little extra on the line as everyone looks to score bragging rights on what is the home ground for nearly every driver, team, and crew member in the sport. Aj’s previous best on the 1.5-mile oval was 18th, so the pop to third was a very welcome one, particularly with new partner Wix Filters on board for the weekend as the primary on the famed 43.

“Probably nobody is more surprised than me on qualifying third,” said AJ, who was busy this week with several media appearances for the new Wix Filters schemeThe car was decent in practice but it was more me. I've never qualified well here and don't have a lot of confidence here on that. The biggest help was looking at video after practice and I thought I was losing time in 3 and 4 but it was actually 1 and 2. Then Paul and Elliot ran strong on the low line so I just sucked it up and did all those things. I'm proud of all the guys and glad we could put Wix Filters up near the top on their first time out as our primary.”

The Bank of America 500 at CMS will be broadcast on ABC Saturday night starting at 7:30 PM ET.
